BC + Shopify Implementation / Full commerce implementation

Option 03

Business Central and Shopify Implementation, Delivered Together

You are putting in Business Central and standing up Shopify at the same time, or moving off QuickBooks, Dynamics GP or a legacy system and rebuilding commerce while you are at it. One team implements the ERP, builds the storefront and connects them, so the commerce processes are designed into Business Central rather than bolted on afterwards.

Why together

The Shopify side is not the whole story

Most Shopify integrations stall on something inside the ERP: a posting group that was never set up, an item master that cannot be mapped, dimensions nobody agreed on, a tax structure that does not cover the countries the store sells into. When the ERP implementation and the commerce build are separate projects, those problems surface at the worst possible moment, which is after the ERP has gone live and been signed off.

Implementing both together means the commerce requirements shape the Business Central configuration from day one. The item master is designed knowing it will feed a storefront. The posting groups are designed knowing Shopify Payments payouts will land against them. The dimensions are designed knowing you will want to report on channel.

Integration

Shopify to Business Central

The full integration scope: products and items, inventory, customers, sales orders, pricing, customer specific pricing, fulfilment, shipping and tracking, returns and refunds, payments, tax and financial integration, location mapping, sync automation and error monitoring.

Sequencing

What goes live, and when

A common and expensive mistake is trying to switch everything on in one weekend. We phase it, and the phasing is agreed in design rather than improvised in month four.

01. Discover, everything at once

Finance processes, inventory model, order to cash, purchasing, warehousing, returns, and the commerce requirements, documented together. The catalogue design is settled here because it constrains both the ERP item master and the storefront.

  • week 1 to 4

02. Business Central configuration and migration

Company setup, posting groups, dimensions, number series, locations, sales and inventory setup, then master data migration and cleanup through configuration packages.

  • week 3 to 12

03. Storefront build, in parallel

The Shopify build runs alongside the ERP configuration, against the catalogue structure agreed in discovery.

  • week 5 to 14

04. Business Central go-live first

The ERP goes live and runs on its own for a period, usually one full month end. Finance settles, the item master stabilises, and the team learns the system without the storefront adding pressure.

  • week 14 to 18
  • gate: one clean month end

05. Integration and storefront go-live

Connector activation, full process UAT through the real storefront, cutover and launch, with transaction monitoring across both systems.

  • week 18 to 22

06. Support and optimisation

Hypercare across the ERP and the commerce stack together, then ongoing support covering integration issues, Business Central and Shopify changes, new requirements, performance and process improvement, reporting, additional channels and future integrations.

  • week 22 onward

Cost

What a full commerce implementation costs

From $48,000

USD, fixed after discovery

That covers a Business Central implementation at mid-market scope, a configured premium storefront and the full integration. Manufacturing, warehouse management, multi-entity, multi-currency, heavy historical data migration or a custom theme build each move it up, and each is assessed in discovery before the number is fixed.

Business Central user licences are bought directly from Microsoft in your name. Shopify platform fees, theme licences and app subscriptions are likewise yours, and none of them are marked up by us.

Published 2026 market pricing

  • BC quick start implementation, 8 to 10 weeksaround $30,000
  • BC standard mid-market, 10 to 16 weeks$40,000 to $75,000
  • BC complex or heavy integration, 16+ weeks$100,000+
  • Shopify storefront build$3,000 to $20,000
  • Shopify ERP integration$15,000 to $30,000
  • All three, bought separately$58,000 to $125,000

Published guidance also suggests budgeting 1.5 to 2.5 times your annual Business Central subscription spend for the initial implementation, which is a useful cross-check against any quote you receive, including ours.

Where you are coming from

Common starting points

QuickBooks Online

Outgrown the accounting package

Multi-location stock, real inventory costing, or manufacturing requirements that QuickBooks cannot carry. We migrate customers, items, inventory, prices and opening balances, and stand up commerce at the same time.

Dynamics GP

Moving to the cloud

GP to Business Central is a route we have run many times, and it is the natural moment to replace whatever eCommerce integration was bolted onto GP over the years.

Retail Management Hero

Retail moving to Business Central

An RMH estate moving to Business Central with Shopify in front of it. We build and support x2x RMH integrations, so we know exactly where the seams are between RMH, BC and a storefront.

Frequently asked

Business Central eCommerce implementation questions

You can, and sometimes it is the right call, for example when the ERP go-live is already urgent for financial reasons. The cost of doing it that way is that the item master, posting groups and dimensions get designed without the storefront in mind, and some of that has to be revisited. If you are going to end up with both anyway, designing them together is cheaper. We will tell you honestly which applies in your case.

You buy them directly from Microsoft or through a licensing partner, in your own name. We do not resell licences, so our advice on Essentials against Premium, and on how many full users you actually need, has no commercial angle in it.

Master data and open transactions always: customers, items, inventory, prices, open orders and balances. Historical transactions are a judgement call, because bringing years of history into a new ERP costs real money and often delivers less than keeping the old system available read-only for a period. We lay out both options with the cost attached and you choose.

Business Central Premium covers manufacturing and service, and warehouse management is available across editions at different levels. Both add scope beyond the starting price, and both are assessed in discovery. If the requirement is light, there are usually simpler routes than full production orders, and we will say so.

One named lead consultant, from discovery through go-live. That is the point of taking all three scopes with one team. There is no seam between the ERP partner, the storefront agency and the integrator for a problem to fall into.

Other options

Option 01

Integration only

Both systems live. Just connect them.

Option 02

Shopify plus integration

Business Central is live, the storefront is not.
